a great place to work

Imagine a workplace based around the principle:

People work best when they feel good about themselves

We have rarely met anybody who disagrees with that statement. How would it be if management in your organisation saw that as the key focus of its work?

Imagine a workplace where people were trusted to make the key decisions about their work. Where, instead of levels of approval, people were given the training and support to decide for themselves.

Celebrate Mistakes

Imagine a blame free culture. If we really want people to try new approaches we need to encourage new ideas and experiments. If there are no mistakes, there isn't much learning going on.

Share the Information

Without information, people cannot take responsibility. With information, people cannot avoid taking responsibility. Imagine being able to find out anything about your organisation (apart from personal HR issues). Imagine getting feedback so you know how you are doing now, not how your manager thinks you are doing three months later. Imagine having full ownership of your job.

Where do you work best?

Think back on when you have performed at your best. For most people this is when they have been given the freedom to decide what to do themselves and trusted to get on with it. With support when they need it (and sometimes being challenged along the way).

If you are a manager, is this how you set things up for your people? If not, how can you get to that point? What people can achieve when they are motivated and have the freedom to take charge is way beyond anything anybody can be managed to do.

Do you live to work or work to live?

How is the life balance of your people? Imagine being trusted to work out how to balance your personal needs with your responsibilities at work. Imagine an organisation that assumes any proposal you make for your working hours makes sense, rather than forcing you to prove it.

That is the kind of workplace we have been striving to build at Happy. We would like to help you make your organisation a great place to work too and have set up Happy People to share our experience and train others.
